In a Dream Indeed
|
Rome - The name of this five-star toy store in Piazza Navona isn't too far from the truth. Al Sogno roughly translates to "in a dream" . . . the shop windows suggest just that, the store's interior confirms it.
|
Teddy bear? Too prosaic. How about a life sized Panda or Polar bear? A giraffe? Sure, as long as the child's room has an 18 foot ceiling. Besides the stuffed animals, they also carry the most incredible porcelain dolls, fairies, trolls, and elves, so life-like you feel like Gulliver among the Lilliputians.
The entire store is quite small, to tell the truth, yet its boundaries seem to disappear the moment you step in. Think Alice and Wonderland, the Jungle Book, miniature train-set, Pinocchio and Geppetto's home, and a magical forest all compressed into one, without one spare inch of wall, floor, or ceiling space left in which to add to the effect.
In a dream indeed . . . young and less young alike.
