Antico Forno Roscioli
Roscioli

Rome - In Italy, pretty much all stores that deal with food are by definition what elsewhere one would call a gourmet food store. This is because good quality products area available locally, which means prices stay down. So when a store actually goes out of their way to label themselves "gourmet", it is worth noticing.
Roscioli

The Antico Forno Roscioli, a local bakery in downtown Rome since 1824, has done just that with their wine, cheese, coldcut, and specialty item store across the street from their already famous bakery. They stock all the usual Italian food products that other stores carry, but have made a point of only carrying the best of each kind. They also carry items that you won't find in other stores, available only by travelling to specific regions in Italy.

Keep in mind that you will NOT find 1 Euro/liter table wine here, as mentioned instead in yesterday's Note. However, for that hard to find item, incredible wine, or special cheese, you will be hard pressed to find better. And coupled with an elegant lunch or dinner at the tables in the back, their in house cafe', and a visit to the bakery across the street, you could easily find a worse place to spend an hour or two. Via dei Giubbonari, 21-22, between Campo de Fiori and the Jewish Ghetto. www.anticofornoroscioli.com
