Stained Glass - Redefined
|
Milano - Following years at all the best accademie d'arte (art schools), Roberto Fasoli and Ernesto Raducci then followed a script that has been repeated for thousands of years. They worked in a bottega, under the careful eye of an established maestro.
Then, after years perfecting their technique, they struck out on their own and haven't looked back. At the risk of sounding diminutive, their "standard" stained glass windows (photo 1, for example) are incredible figurative or abstract achievements in complexity and detail, of course all hand made. This category includes numerous commissions for churches throughout northern Italy as well as interior design pieces for windows and panels in private homes.

The work that really stands out however are their hand painted pieces. In photo 2 for example, Maestro Roberto is working on a light-box mounted, two-colored square glass panel (the upper piece of glass is white, and the lower one yellow). By removing the black powder coating with which he previously covered the whole piece, he uncovers the stained glass thereby letting more or less light shine through. He can therefore create gradations of light and dark and create a face, give definition to clothing, or re-create the grain of wood. The piece is then baked to set the remaining powder.
Apologies if this email takes a while to load, but it was too difficult to choose between Maestri Roberto e Ernesto's renditions of Caravaggio's David and Goliath and St.Catherine of Alexandria, so we included them both (photos 3 and 4). Keep in mind that these are NOT paintings, they are nothing but colored glass and light . . . Maestri indeed!
