Birthday gift

April 21, 2016 / Art & Archaeology
Rome, Lazio

On April 21st every year, Rome celebrates its birthday, il Natale di Roma. (lit. the Nativity of Rome; legend holds that Romulus founded the city on April 21st, 753 B.C.)

And what better way to celebrate the event this year with an unveiling of an upgrade in none other than the Roman Forum? The Soprintendenza Archaeologica di Roma decided to spend €400,000 on 450 fixtures and the installation of a new LED lighting system.

From now on, from dusk till dawn, walk along Via dei Fori Imperiali or take a look down into the Forum from the terraces off the back of the Capitoline hill, and you will be rewarded with the dramatic and theatrical new system that beautifully illuminates the various temples, ruins, and basilicas and forums.

Auguri, Roma!

That is spectacular. Can’t imagine what the creators of those sites would think if they could see it today.
